Gastronomy
in Tenerife
One of the most attractive aspects of Tenerife and whole Spain is without
doubt the kitchen, one of the best of the world because of his quality
and variation in products. The Spanish kitchen separates himself
because they cook only with olive oil and there is a large
variation in fruits, vegetables, salted potatoes and tomatoes. Do
not forget the garlic, one of the ingredients they are famous
of!
Food in Spain.
To eat in Spain is one of the pleasant daily rituals. The rich
variation in gastronomy, together with the Spanish culture, makes
it easy to find a restaurant or terrace where you can enjoy
this.
The time when people eat is always one and a half hour later then in
Europe and a lot of the restaurant stay open till late. Here in
Tenerife you will find cheap restaurants and expensive ones,
depend on with dinner you want. You will find everything you like
here.

Drinks
The wine is the most fundamental part of all kitchens in Spain. Especially
the "Rioja" is very famous, by his flavors and aroma.
Other very good wines are the
Ribera del Duero, Penedés and La Mancha, which are improved in
quality over last couple of years.

Beer you will find in a larger scale here, especially as aperitif
between dinners and with tapas in bars and café's. The beer is
light of color and has a nice flavor and will be served very cold
in a glass. Some names are; San Miquel, Dorada, La estrella, Reina
and Mahou. And also import beer like Heineken, Amstel and all the
English beer in bottles.

Tapas:
La tapa" you can say these
are small "snacks" between the lunch and evening dinner.
The first "tapas" arise by the farmers
or construction workers, because they wanted to eat something
small between the lunch and dinner. These "snacks"
were very fat, that makes there body move and needed a 'siesta' to
digest and to rest. These 'siesta' last several hours. All the fat
of the Tapas asked for wine, the alcohol digested the food and
gave the body warmth in the winter. In the South, when it was
summer, they had the 'gazpacho' (cold tomato soup), they drank it instead
of wine, to refresh the body.
.
Because of this reason, they covered the classes
with slices smoked ham or cheese, with two reasons; first, to keep
the insects and other small things out of there glasses and second
they had something to eat with the alcohol as a result that the
food was better digested with alcohol. We think this is the origin
off the "Tapa" and was born here in Spain. A piece of
food that served as a lid for a glass ( tapa means in Spanish
"lid"). Now you will find the "Tapa" all over
Europe and many people took the tradition over.

When the people eat Tapas, they have all the
time to get together and have a nice conversation, this makes it
so pleasant to eat Tapas with a big group of people. Get together
with a drink and a "snack".
Some famous Spanish Tapas are; calamares, cheese
croquets, (papas brava) spicy potatoes , sausage but also the
small meatballs (albondiga's), Spanish omelet (tortilla),
Sardines, Gamba´s and Garlic bread with it. This makes it a complete
dinner.
One of the most popular restaurant in Tenerife
South is Restaurant Chill Out in Los Cristianos, here you can eat
as many Tapas as you want, all home made on a Typical Spanish way.
