Our story begins:

It all began with a holiday in Tenerife October 1997. We ran into a small restaurant in Torviscas, Playa de las américas we loved the restaurant and asked ourselves could we live here.  Not knowing the languages and habits we ran into a man who worked in a real estate office and asked him for help. He new everything about buying a selling houses but not about businesses so he sent us to a lawyer on the other side of the road (a good friend of his).  We are so glad that he introduced us to his friend the lawyer because he informed us about everything we needed to undertake regarding setting up a business.  The differences between setting up a business here in Tenerife is that when you buy a business you buy the debts as well, so you need to have a LAWYER. He will collect all the papers that are relevant to the business, he will then inform you what he has found. 

After sorting the papers and signing the contracts we decided to move to Tenerife in January 1989.  

With a lot of doubts and questioning ourselves whether we had made the right decisions we left Holland with everything we could carry.  The rest of our belongings we put in a container and had it shipped over to Santa Cruz, this we could then pick up after arriving in Tenerife this was approximately 3 days.  Know we could finally start getting our restaurant in order. We gave it the name "t´Beertje", a typical Dutch restaurant.

I could write a book with a lot of chapters about all the things we did right and wrong (maybe I will do that one day).  To keep this story short, in the beginning we made lots of mistakes and I don't want other people to make the same mistakes we made. We learnt so much more.

With this website I want to give people more inside information about Spanish authorities, the culture and the people here in Tenerife.  You have to realize that it is a very big step and not undertaken lightly. If you never made a decision like this, that will change your life forever, you will never understand what it feels like to live in a country which is so different from your own.  

At this moment we are owners of our second restaurant in Los Cristianos and everyday we over come new obstacles, but we find comfort in the friend we make and the people we meet on this Island.
